Dirk Nowitzki still brings it every night, but the future looks bright with the trio of Harrison Barnes, Wesley Matthews and Seth Curry ready to keep Dallas competitive in the Southwest Division and Western Conference.
The Mavs will have two home games apiece against both James Harden and the Houston Rockets and the San Antonio Spurs as they vie for bragging rights in the Lone Star state. And now add in the new Twin Towers of Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins in New Orleans, and there’s star power at every turn. While Nowitzki enjoys the twilight of his career and has surpassed 30,000 points, the Mavericks have done a good job integrating new parts for the future, most notably wing players Matthews and Barnes, while Curry has gone from undrafted point guard and Stephen Curry’s younger brother to NBA-caliber facilitator and playmaker.
There are still more pieces for the Mavericks to find going forward, but the foundation for basketball after Nowitzki’s 41 hangs in the rafters is clearly set as they try to compete in the Southwest Division and the Western Conference.
