The Marlins look to continue their upward trajectory in manager Don Mattingly’s second season, and are fielding arguably their best team since moving into Marlins Park in 2012. Slugger Giancarlo Stanton again is the focal point of the offense, and he’ll be backed by fellow outfielders Christian Yelich and Marcell Ozuna.
Dee Gordon has plenty of flash on the basepaths and sizzle defensively at second base, and Ichiro Suzuki will again provide veteran leadership as he continues his climb up Major League Baseball’s all-time hits list. On the mound, free agent singing Edinson Volquez will lead a deep starting rotation that expects big things from Adam Conley, Wei-Yin Chen and Mike Koehler as the Marlins seek their first winning record since 2009 and first playoff appearance since capturing the 2003 World Series.
