Long overdue, NHL set to eliminate hits to head
(Fri, 19 Mar 2010 16:41:23 PDT)
The dazed and distant look on Brent Seabrook's face after the Chicago Blackhawks defenseman got crushed against the boards cried out for a head shot ban -- in time for the third period. The sight of Boston Bruins star Marc Savard out cold on the ice after a vicious hit March 7 sent a message about the need for attention to player safety, too.
Red Wings could loom large in West (CBC.ca)

It seems strange to contemplate the mighty Detroit Red Wings being without a four-game winning streak with the end of March in sight, but that's where the team finds itself as it plays in Edmonton on Friday night.

Ducks Team Report
(Fri, 19 Mar 2010 02:30:47 PDT)
A crushing hit Ducks defenseman James Wisniewski delivered on Chicago Blackhawks counterpart Brent Seabrook during the second period of Wednesday night's 4-2 Anaheim victory at Honda Center drew plenty of attention and a eight-game suspension for Wisniewski.
Shortly after Seabrook had put a big hit on Ducks right wing Corey Perry behind the Chicago net, Wisniewski received a minor penalty for charging Seabrook. The Blackhawks defenseman appeared to briefly lose consciousness as he fell to the ice. He left the game and did not return.
A livid Chicago coach Joel Quenneville called it "the most dangerous hit in the history of the game," and accused Wisniewski, a former Blackhawk, of trying to hurt Seabrook.
Chicago defenseman Duncan Keith immediately engaged Wisniewski...
Ducks' Wisniewski suspended for 8 games
(Thu, 18 Mar 2010 20:38:33 PDT)
Anaheim Ducks defenseman James Wisniewski was suspended for eight games without pay Thursday for knocking Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Brent Seabrook out of a game at Anaheim. The incident occurred at 2:22 of the second period during the Blackhawks' 4-2 loss on Wednesday. Seabrook's head struck the glass with such force that it left him with a dazed expression a couple of seconds before he...

Koivu's goal gives Ducks win over Blackhawks
(Thu, 18 Mar 2010 07:09:24 PDT)
For the second straight game, the Chicago Blackhawks lost a key member of their defense because of a vicious check against the boards behind the net. To add insult to injury, Anaheim's Saku Koivu scored the go-ahead goal late in the third period -- just seconds after a blind-side cross-check by Corey Perry against defenseman Brent Sopel that easily could have been called interference.

Selanne scores 599th goal, Ducks beat Sharks
(Sun, 14 Mar 2010 21:15:33 PDT)
The Anaheim Ducks haven't had much to pat themselves on the back about. A great deal of their misery has been caused by the San Jose Sharks. But Anaheim's 4-2 victory over the Western Conference leaders Sunday night salvaged a shred of dignity for the Ducks, who avoided getting swept by their Pacific Division rivals in a six-game season series for the third time.
Rinne, Predators beat Ducks 1-0
(Fri, 12 Mar 2010 22:46:44 PST)
The Nashville Predators are the NHL's most disciplined team when it comes to staying out of the penalty box. The Anaheim Ducks are one of the most penalized clubs, and that disparity is reflected in the Western Conference standings. Pekka Rinne made 31 saves for his fourth shutout of the season, Shea Weber scored during a 5-on-3 power-play, and the Predators strengthened their hold on a playoff...
