During a season when the good moments have been rare, the Hurricanes produced some dramatics for a change.
Just moments after the Maple Leafs went ahead with 29.9 seconds remaining in regulation, the Hurricanes responded. A timeout preceded right wing Erik Cole's tying goal with 1.9 seconds left.
Cole said he hopes the game makes the Hurricanes "recognize how tough it is to win in this league."
It was just one of the comebacks on this night.
The Hurricanes trailed 3-0 after one period. They were behind 4-2 with 12 minutes remaining. They eventually won in a shootout.
"I know we have it in this team," right wing Tuomo Ruutu said. "(This game), we showed it."

Hurricanes send Rodney to minors

The Carolina Hurricanes sent defenseman Bryan Rodney back to their AHL affiliate in Albany. The team made the move Friday after bringing him up Nov. 11. Rodney had two assists in five games and averaged nearly 18 minutes of ice time during his first stint with the team this season. The Hurricanes host Tampa Bay on Saturday.
