Blues Team Report
(Sat, 20 Mar 2010 03:25:31 PDT)
Paul Kariya became the 83rd player in NHL history to record 400 goals Thursday night.
Kariya netted the game-winner in a 4-3 win over the New York Rangers, a victory that allowed the Blues to keep pace in the Western Conference playoff race.
"It was more important that we got the two points," Kariya said. "We're in a battle here, and it was great to get the win here in New York. To get to 400 is a nice thing to happen, but I've been fortunate in my career to play with a lot of great players and received a lot of great passes. Terrific play."
Kariya couldn't have asked for a better-looking goal for his highlight reel. Teammates David Backes and T.J. Oshie coordinated a give-and-go before Oshie centered the puck to Kariya for a redirection shot.

The dazed and distant look on Brent Seabrook's face after the Chicago Blackhawks defenseman got crushed against the boards cried out for a head shot ban -- in time for the third period. The sight of Boston Bruins star Marc Savard out cold on the ice after a vicious hit March 7 sent a message about the need for attention to player safety, too.

(Sun, 14 Mar 2010 19:10:30 PDT)
