The Blue Jackets can't wait much longer for goaltender Pascal Leclaire to work the rust off his game, especially with rookie Steve Mason making such a claim for the No. 1 job.
Mason pitched his second career NHL shutout—his second blanking in just three starts—in the Blue Jackets' 3-0 win over Washington on Saturday in Nationwide Arena.
The 21-year-old has dramatically outplayed Leclaire and Fredrik Norrena, who came into the season as the clear No. 1 and No. 2 goaltenders but have since slid down the pecking order. Mason already has been named the starter for Monday's home game against the Vancouver Canucks. Blue Jackets recall Dorsett

The Columbus Blue Jackets recalled right wing Derek Dorsett from the club's AHL affiliate in Syracuse. Blue Jackets general manager Scott Howson announced the move Wednesday night. The 21-year-old Dorsett has one goal, one assist and 56 penalty minutes in 10 games with the Blue Jackets this season. He ranked among the NHL leaders in penalty minutes before he was sent down two weeks ago.
