Generally at this point in the season, a team out of the playoff race faces thoughts of tanking for a better lottery position. The Knicks don't have that problem this season.
It is a reality that still makes the Knicks' hierarchy cringe: Their first-round pick belongs to the Jazz and is not lottery protected. Want to really see the color disappear from their faces? Tell them that pick was given away in 2004 in a trade for Stephon Marbury.
Yeah, it's been that kind of decade in New York.
The pick, which was part of a larger package that brought Marbury to the Knicks that season, was initially given to the Suns. But only a month later, the Suns sent that pick along with Tom Gugliotta to the Jazz for Keon Clark and Ben Handgloten in a salary dump.

Toney Douglas is making a strong case to remain in the starting lineup. The rookie guard from Florida State had a solid all-around effort for the second consecutive game, and the New York Knicks won both of them. Danilo Gallinari scored 21 points, Douglas added 20 and the Knicks won their second straight on the road by rallying past the struggling Philadelphia 76ers, 94-84 on Monday night.
