Bulls Team Report

One encouraging character trait the Bulls showed early this season
was a competitive fire. In the first 11 games, they had been in most
every game with the exception of a road game in Boston.
There was no sign of any fight during Wednesday's 116-74 loss at
Portland on Wednesday night, though. Now the Bulls have two days to
figure out how to shake that one off before facing Golden State on
Friday. This will be the third stop on the seven-game "circus" road trip, which coincides with the circus moving into the United Center. The Portland loss was one of those miserable performances where it's almost better not to watch the game tape and simply remind the players it counts as one loss, just like a two-point overtime...

Bulls waive Nichols

The Chicago Bulls waived forward Demetris Nichols on Monday. The 6-foot-8 Nichols appeared in two games this season and averaged one point. He was claimed on waivers by the Bulls in December of 2007 and later re-signed by Chicago this past July. Nichols was a second-round pick of the Portland Trail Blazers in 2007.

The injury-depleted Chicago Bulls signed veteran point guard Lindsey Hunter, who is expected to join the team for the game Thursday against the Dallas Mavericks. With a Bulls' backcourt thinned by injuries, the 37-year-old Hunter brings 15 years of experience to the team. He played 24 games for Detroit last season.

Rose misses practice to rest back

Chicago Bulls rookie guard Derrick Rose is sitting out practice to rest a sore back but expects to play Thursday against the Dallas Mavericks. Rose started getting back spasms before Tuesday night's 113-108 loss to Atlanta but still played 42 minutes. He finished with 26 points to match his career-high, and had a career-best 10 rebounds for his first double-double.

Chicago Bulls guard Kirk Hinrich had surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right thumb and could be out for three months. Dr. John Fernandez and Dr. Mark Cohen of Rush University Medical Center performed the operation Tuesday. Hinrich was hurt last Friday night in Chicago's 100-83 victory over Phoenix when he tried to knock the ball away from the Suns' Amare Stoudemire.
