Michigan International Speedway is located in the Irish Hills of southeastern Michigan on more than 1,400 acres. Charles Moneypenny, who also designed Daytona International Speedway, designed the track at
Michigan International Speedway. The first race was held on October 13, 1968 as Ronnie Bucknam collected $20,088 as the winner.
Michigan International Speedway started out with 25,000 seats overlooking the 2-mile oval track.
Michigan International Speedway is the largest sports arena in Michigan. Since the opening of the speedway, the seating capacity has been increased to four times its original size. Today, Michigan
International Speedway hosts up to six major racing events during the summer and holds over 136,000 fans.
