Avril Lavigne Information

Avril Lavigne was born the middle child of three children in the small town of Nappanee, Ontario, Canada. Avril's rock sprit was noticeable to all that knew her at the age of two. By her early teen years, she
was already writing songs and even taught herself to play the guitar. Her church choir as well as festivals/fairs in her town also allowed Avril to get her voice heard. She began sending videotapes of her
stage performances to labels and management companies throughout North America. Following a host of rejections, her talent eventually paid off and a Nettwerk Management executive took notice. After meeting
with Nettwerk Management they arranged for Avril to fly to New York City accompanied by her older brother Matt to meet with some other songwriters and begin work on a demo tape. Avril lucked out by being in
the right place at the right time. She was in the studio writing when she caught the eye of Antonio "LA" Reid who got the young artist a contract deal with Arista Records at the age of 16. With L.A.'s
assistance and a new Manhattan apartment, she found herself surrounded by prime songwriters and producers, but it wasn't impressive enough for her to continue. She had always relied on her own ideas to
create that musical spark but sadly things weren't going as she had planned. When she failed to click with any of the New York-based songwriters, Avril made her third move of the year, this time to Los
Angeles. She met producer/songwriter Cliff Magness, with whom she immediately developed a rapport. The two began composing together, Avril's edgy sound got a much needed fine-tuning and within a few months'
time, Avril's debut album had begun to take shape.
Avril's first single, "Complicated," was released in the early spring of 2002, and immediately began scaling the charts across the continent. By that summer, the track had reached the top spot among Canadian
singles, and was in the top 15 on the Billboard top 40 list. The popularity of "Complicated" paved the way for the success of Avril's first full-length CD, Let Go, which debuted at number 8 on the Billboard
charts, and sold millions of copies worldwide. One thing is for sure, Avril has taken the world by storm. Avril's Try To Shut Me Up world tour was a huge success as well.
It seems as if Avril may be in the spotlight for some time to come. Avril sings about not fitting in, her crushes, her heart being broken and she sings these stories as a true rock star would.
